Those days are over, and it looks like we all comprehend our role in stopping and perhaps reversing the damage being done to our planet. Unless everyone begins to start living a lot more eco-friendly we won't be able to correct the problems of the environment. Changing light bulbs is actually as good an area to begin with as any. Complete this for the entire house, not only the kitchen. The normal light bulbs are the incandescent variety, which must be replaced with compact fluorescent lightbulbs, which save energy. These bulbs are energy-efficient which means electricity consumption is actually lower, and, even though they cost a bit more to buy, will outlast an incandescent light ten times over. Changing the light bulbs would certainly keep a lot of bulbs out of the landfills, and that is good. It goes further than simply replacing the lights, though; turning off lights that aren't needed is another good thing to do. The kitchen lights specifically will often be left on the entire day, just because the family tends to spend a lot of time there. Obviously this also happens in different rooms, not just the kitchen. Try keeping the lights off unless you absolutely need them, and discover just how much electricity you can save.

From the above it should be clear that just in the kitchen, by itself, there are lots of little opportunities for saving energy and money. Green living is not that hard. Mostly, all it requires is a bit of common sense.
